We don’t have the division yet, but at least Francona can rest the starters.
Had a debate with a Yankee fan about the importance of winning the division versus resting your starters for the playoff run. His thought being, winning the division is more important. My thought is that it is an important factor, but not at the expense of exhausting your key players for the playoff run. The playoffs are a new season and hold no relevance to the division once started. He counters that it is important if your team makes the playoffs by winning the division but then looses. Huh? To me, there is no difference between the wildcard and division except one may get homefield advantage. If your team doesn’t make the world series, the division won’t mean anything.
